Mark Mellin has over 30 years of experience providing strategic, financial, and operational leadership and services to companies in numerous industries, including medical technology. Mr. Mellin’s strengths include capital deployment, operational excellence, business development, and strategic planning. Mr. Mellin has significant M&A experience in both the private and public company sectors negotiating and closing strategic sales, IPOs and financing arrangements. Mr. Mellin previously served as President and CEO of Vidacare Corporation, a vascular access medical device company acquired by Teleflex Incorporated, and as Managing Partner of the San Antonio office of Arthur Andersen. Additionally, Mr. Mellin was the Senior Vice President and CFO of Ilex Oncology Inc., an oncology drug development company that was acquired by Genzyme Corporation. Mr. Mellin, a CPA, has significant public and private company board experience.


Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Rick Mangum has over 30 years of financial management, operations and M&A experience in senior financial and operational leadership roles. Mr. Mangum has significant healthcare experience in medical device manufacturing, distribution, medical group management and hospital system administration. Mr. Mangum previously served as Senior Vice President and CFO of Vidacare Corporation. Mr. Mangum oversaw finance, IT, HR and international operations, growing Vidacare from $25 million to $70 million in annual sales. Additionally, Mr. Mangum was the Vice President of Finance at Clear Channel Broadcasting, a $4 billion-a-year radio and TV broadcasting division. Mr. Mangum has executed many sell side transactions including sale negotiation, due diligence management and company sale preparation.


Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Barry Linder is a physician executive, entrepreneur and board certified ophthalmologist with over 30 years of experience in healthcare innovation. Dr. Linder is skilled in developing next- generation medical devices and information systems to address unmet needs in healthcare. Dr. Linder has management and operational experience through executive leadership positions in privately financed growth and commercial stage medical device companies. He also has held senior positions across multiple divisions in Kaiser Permanente, a large, integrated, healthcare delivery network. Trained in Electrical Engineering at MIT, he went on to receive advanced degrees in Biological Engineering and Medicine. Since joining Clarity Medical Systems in 2006 as Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Linder has supported the development, clinical investigations and commercialization of advanced ophthalmic medical devices in pediatric ophthalmology and adult cataract surgery.


Vice President of Sales

Michael Manteiga has enjoyed a progressive 23-year career in sales, sales management, and executive level sales leadership in the medical device arena focusing on the hospital/surgeon call point, but additionally physician office call point for capital equipment technologies. Over the past 16 years he has held integral senior leadership positions that were responsible for setting and executing corporate strategic and tactical direction. Michael started his surgical career with United States Surgical Corporation (AutoSuture) educating all modalities of surgical specialty in the pioneering minimally invasive surgical approach. He was promoted to Eastern Area Sales Manager where he successfully launched a new line of surgical sutures. He joined Baxter Healthcare (BioSurgery Division) as Eastern Regional Sales Director to launch a newly FDA cleared product – Tisseel Fibrin sealant, used for hemostasis in all surgical specialties and sealing cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) leaks in spine and neurosurgery. He later joined Optos, Inc. based out of Dunfermline, Scotland, representing a proprietary dual scanning laser used for ultra-wide field retinal imaging. As a relative start up organization, he spent 5 years as VP of Sales, North America, leading the sales effort through a 2007 IPO and growing the business from 28m to 101m. Michael has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from Bentley University.


Vice President of Operations and RA/QA

Eric Steuben is responsible for manufacturing, regulatory affairs, quality assurance, supply chain, logistics and technical services. Mr. Steuben joins Clarity after previously working for Asante Solutions, Inc. a manufacturer of insulin pumps, where he led the commercialization and scaling of manufacturing, including transfer to offshore facilities. Prior to that, he led manufacturing, engineering and operations’ teams at Align Technology and Microdental Laboratories.


Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer

John Farugia brings a wealth of experience in sales and marketing of medical devices. He most recently served as Senior Director, Global Marketing with Vidacare Corporation, a vascular access medical device company which was sold to Teleflex Incorporated. Prior to Vidacare, Mr. Farugia served a long tenure with Kinetic Concepts Inc., and was instrumental in the company’s expansion into several key international markets, including Brazil and Japan, as well as managing new product launches both domestically and internationally.


Vice President of Research & Development and Chief Technology Officer

Wenkang Qi was previously a Vice President of Asante Solutions, Inc., where he led research and development of the company’s insulin pump technology. Prior to Asante, Mr. Qi held leadership roles in the R & D department of Vasa Nova, as well as engineering roles at GE Medical Systems and ZONARE.
